Chess in Jakarta and Jabodetabek

Chess in Greater Jakarta is played in club basecamps, mall atriums and food courts, and coffee shops where informal “ngeround” rounds are played. Clubs gather thickest in Depok, Ciputat and the east and west of the capital; malls in Bekasi, Serpong and East Jakarta host junior and rated events, and the Percasi city boards hold the championships. Chess960 in Jakarta

The tournament titles and organiser names listed for Indonesia from 2025 to 2027, and the FIDE-rated events of 2025 and 2026, were read for Chess960, Fischer Random, Freestyle and “catur acak”; the one title carrying the number 960 belongs to an online xiangqi series.

In Chess960 the pieces behind the pawns start in one of 960 shuffled orders, so memorised openings stop mattering from the first move. Until a Jakarta club takes it up over the board, it can be played online at ch960.com.

No over-the-board Chess960 event in Greater Jakarta has been found so far.

How the directory is kept

Nearly every card here rests on the public tournament database chess-results.com, where Indonesian organisers post their events: the card gives the organiser or the venue, its newest dated event and the place the listing prints. A school, a university club and a mall add pages of their own. Each fact shows the date its page was read.

Within each list the cards with the most recent evidence of chess come first; the order says nothing about quality. Where no page states a fact, the card reads “not stated by sources”. The meaning of the status lines and the limits of the directory are set out under about the directory.

Is your club or venue missing?

Clubs in Jabodetabek move their basecamp, start a new weekly round or take a series to another mall all the time. If your club, school or tournament is not here, or a card has fallen behind, send a note with a link to a page that shows it.
